Ways to Reuse Your Packaging

In a world trying to deal with the environmental consequences of excess waste, finding creative ways to repurpose packaging materials is excellent for sustainable living as an alternative to throwing it away. Rather than disposing of used packaging, take inspiration from these innovative methods to transform your packaging into functional and stylish additions.

1. DIY Cat Scratcher

Have you got a cardboard box lying around? Transform it into a DIY cat scratcher that your feline friend will love. Cut the box into strips or squares, stack them, and secure them with glue. You've just crafted a budget-friendly cat scratcher that will entertain your pet while diverting waste from landfills.

2. Herb Garden Planters

Those empty tin cans or plastic containers are perfect candidates for upcycled herb garden planters. Simply clean them out, cut some drainage holes in the bottom, fill them with soil, and plant your favourite herbs. Not only will you have fresh herbs at your fingertips, but you'll also add a touch of greenery to your kitchen or balcony.

3. Drawer Organisers

Utilise cardboard boxes from your recent deliveries to create drawer dividers. Simply measure and cut the boxes to fit within your drawer, creating compartments of various sizes to accommodate different items. Cover the dividers with paper or fabric to decorate them.

4. Plastic Bottle Bird Feeder

Turn plastic bottles into a DIY bird feeder for the birds in your garden. Cut a hole near the bottom of the bottle, insert a wooden spoon or perch, and fill it with birdseed. Hang it from a tree branch or hook, and watch as birds visit.

5. Reselling Site Postage

Reuse old packaging when sending second-hand clothes, etc, through sites like eBay, Depop, and Vinted. Depending on what you have resold, you can reuse plastic packaging, cardboard boxes, or protective materials from prior deliveries and purchases instead of buying new packaging.

Whilst recycling is great, reusing your packaging is the best option for the environment. You can turn your packaging materials into something valuable and creative in millions of ways. So, next time you’ve got spare packaging lying about the house, think about turning it into something else!
